Bilt Transition Guide: What You Need to Do Before January 30, 2026
Bilt is transitioning to a new card ecosystem on February 7, 2026, and current cardholders need to make a decision fast. Here’s exactly what to do based on what you want.
Your Four Options
Option 1: I Want BOTH the New Bilt Card AND Wells Fargo Autograph
What to do:
1. By January 30: Select and apply (you need to get a new approval) for your preferred new BILT card (Blue, Obsidian, or Palladium) in the BILT app
2. Do nothing with your current Wells Fargo account – it will automatically convert to a Wells Fargo Autograph Visa on February 7
Result: You’ll have two cards – your new Bilt card AND the Wells Fargo Autograph (which earns 3X on gas, groceries, dining, and travel)
—
Option 2: I Want ONLY the New Bilt Card
What to do:
1. By January 30: Select and apply for your preferred new Bilt card (Blue, Obsidian, or Palladium) in the Bilt app
2. Before February 6: Contact Wells Fargo and close your current account to avoid getting the Autograph card
Important: Closing your Wells Fargo account will impact your credit utilization and average age of accounts. Your BILT Rewards points are safe and stay with your BILT membership.
—
Option 3: I Want ONLY the Wells Fargo Autograph
What to do:
1. Do NOT select any new Bilt card in the app (ignore the prompts)
2. Do nothing else – your current card will automatically convert to a Wells Fargo Autograph Visa on February 7
Result: You’ll keep the Autograph card but won’t have a Bilt-branded card. You can still keep your Bilt Rewards membership and use points without a Bilt card.
—
Option 4: I Want NEITHER Card
What to do:
1. Do NOT select any new BILT card in the app (ignore the prompts)
2. Before February 6: Contact Wells Fargo directly and close your account
Important: If you do nothing, Wells Fargo will automatically send you an Autograph card on February 7 whether you want it or not. You must proactively close the account to avoid this.
Note: Your BILT Rewards points remain safe and tied to your BILT membership, even without any card.

Key Deadlines
January 30, 2026: Last day to select a new Bilt card
February 6, 2026: Last day to close Wells Fargo account to avoid Autograph conversion
February 7, 2026: Automatic conversion to Wells Fargo Autograph happens
Final Thoughts
The most important thing is to act before January 30 if you want a new BILT card, and act before February 6 if you want to close your Wells Fargo account. Doing nothing means you’ll default to getting the Wells Fargo Autograph.
Take a moment to review your spending patterns, consider the 75% rule we discussed in the previous post, and make the choice that works best for your points strategy.
